Updated October 2026
ZLINE and Thor Kitchen both sell pro-style ranges, range hoods and full kitchen suites at prices below the legacy luxury brands. ZLINE leans into design choice, with designer finishes, Autograph Edition trim and a catalog that runs from ranges to kitchen and bath fixtures. Thor leans into cooking power and a classic professional look, backed by a 2-year parts and labor warranty.
As an authorized dealer for both brands, our team at Home Outlet Direct works with ZLINE and Thor every day. Below we compare them side by side: company background, ranges, range hoods, design, features, warranty, value and product lineup.

Brand Overview
ZLINE Kitchen and Bath
ZLINE Kitchen and Bath was founded by Andrew Zuro in 2007 and is still family-owned. It designs its products in the US, builds them in specialized partner facilities worldwide, and ships from US distribution centers in Nevada, Tennessee and Ohio. Our guide Where Are ZLINE Appliances Made? explains that model in detail.
ZLINE's motto, Attainable Luxury®, sums up its pitch: professional styling and premium finishes at prices below many luxury brands. The brand started with range hoods and is still known for finish choice. Its Autograph Edition adds polished gold, champagne bronze or matte black trim to ranges, hoods and other appliances, so the whole kitchen can match.
Thor Kitchen
Thor Kitchen is an American company based in Southern California. It designs in the US and builds in its own overseas factory, with US-based oversight and customer support. Thor's focus is the look and much of the performance of a professional kitchen at a practical price, with high-BTU burners, continuous cast-iron grates and convection ovens across its range lines.
Thor also makes Gordon Ramsay by Thor Kitchen, a chef partnership collection of ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers and outdoor products. Read more in our Gordon Ramsay by Thor Kitchen guide.
Range Comparison: ZLINE RA36 vs. Thor LRG3601U
For a like-for-like look, here are two popular 36-inch models: the ZLINE Legacy RA36 dual fuel range and the Thor L-Series LRG3601U gas range.
ZLINE RA36 (Legacy Series, dual fuel):
- 6 hand-cast sealed burners from 1,000 to 18,000 BTU
- 4.6 cu. ft. electric convection oven that fits pans up to 27 inches wide
- One-piece porcelain cooktop, cast-iron grates and two ball-bearing oven racks
- StayPut oven door hinges and triple-layer oven glass
- LP conversion kit included, plus a limited lifetime warranty on the gas burners
Thor LRG3601U (L-Series, gas):
- 6 burners: two 18,000 BTU, two 12,000 BTU and two 9,000 BTU
- 6.0 cu. ft. gas convection oven with a commercial convection fan
- Continuous cast-iron grates and a one-piece porcelain spill tray
- Black knob controls and a storage drawer
- Also available in black (LRG3601UB), white (LRG3601UW) and propane versions
| Feature | ZLINE RA36 | Thor LRG3601U |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel type | Dual fuel (gas cooktop, electric oven) | Gas |
| Burners | 6, from 1,000 to 18,000 BTU | 6, from 9,000 to 18,000 BTU |
| Oven | 4.6 cu. ft. electric convection | 6.0 cu. ft. gas convection |
| Electrical | Dedicated 240V circuit | Standard 120V outlet |
| Warranty | 1 year parts and service, limited lifetime on gas burners | 2 years parts and labor |
The main trade-off is the oven. The RA36's electric oven gives the steady, even heat many bakers prefer, while the LRG3601U gives you a bigger gas oven and plugs into a standard 120V outlet. If you're weighing the two fuel types, see dual fuel vs. gas ranges.
Both brands go well beyond these two models. ZLINE's gas ranges now center on the Paramount series (see our ZLINE SGR review), alongside Legacy, Classic, Marino, DuoPro and Autograph Edition models from 24 to 60 inches. Thor's lineup runs from the A-Series up to the X-Series, whose 36-inch gas range adds a 22,000 BTU dual burner, a soft-close door and self-clean. Comparing Thor's two most common gas lines? Range Hoods
A good hood matters as much as the range. A common rule of thumb is about 100 CFM for every 10,000 BTU of gas cooktop output, with a hood at least as wide as the range. Our guide to how much CFM you need walks through the math.
- ZLINE makes wall-mount, island, under-cabinet and insert hoods in stainless steel, copper, wood and designer finishes. Its indoor hoods in our catalog run from about 300 to 1,300 CFM, and its outdoor grill hoods reach 2,000 CFM. Many models, like the KB-36 wall mount hood, have 4 fan speeds up to 400 CFM, dishwasher-safe baffle filters, LED lights and a ductless option.
- Thor Kitchen makes wall-mount, under-cabinet and insert hoods from 350 to 1,200 CFM. The TUCH Series, for example, offers up to 600 CFM over six speeds, gesture and touch controls, a heat sensor that turns the fan on automatically, a delay-off timer, and ducted or ductless installation.
On warranty, ZLINE hoods carry 3 years of parts-only coverage plus a limited lifetime motor warranty, while Thor covers parts and labor for 2 years. Shop ZLINE range hoods or Thor range hoods.
Design and Finishes
This is where ZLINE stands apart. Beyond classic stainless steel, ZLINE offers:
- Satin Stainless Steel (formerly DuraSnow®), a fingerprint-resistant finish
- Black stainless steel and white matte
- Colored oven doors on select ranges
- Autograph Edition trim in polished gold, champagne bronze or matte black
- Matching kitchen faucets, sinks and bath fixtures
Thor's look is classic professional: stainless steel, heavy-duty knobs and continuous grates. It also offers more color than many shoppers expect. Several L-Series and A-Series ranges come in black or white, select A-Series models add bronze trim, and Gordon Ramsay by Thor Kitchen pieces come in stainless or black with accent trim colors such as blue, bronze and rose gold.
If you want one coordinated look across every appliance and fixture, ZLINE gives you more to choose from. If you want a clean pro-style kitchen, Thor fits right in.
Features and Cooking Performance
ZLINE focuses on refinement. Legacy ranges include StayPut door hinges, ball-bearing oven racks, triple-layer oven glass and a one-piece porcelain cooktop, and ZLINE ranges carry a limited lifetime warranty on their gas burners. ZLINE gas range ovens are manual-clean, with no self-clean cycle.
Thor focuses on cooking power and capacity: commercial convection fans, large ovens (6.0 cu. ft. on the 36-inch L-Series), tube or infrared broilers and continuous cast-iron grates. Self-clean, telescopic racks and air fry appear on many X-Series ranges but aren't standard across every series.
With either brand, features vary from series to series, so check the spec sheet for the exact model you're considering.
Warranty, Reliability and Support
Both brands back their appliances with a manufacturer warranty:
- ZLINE: ranges have 1 year of parts and service plus a limited lifetime warranty on gas burners. Range hoods have 3 years of parts-only coverage plus a limited lifetime motor warranty. Claims need proof of purchase and the serial number.
- Thor Kitchen: 2 years of parts and labor on appliances in residential use.
No brand is immune to the occasional service call, so a few habits help with either one:
- Buy from an authorized dealer so your appliance ships new with the full manufacturer warranty. Home Outlet Direct is authorized for both ZLINE and Thor Kitchen.
- Register your appliance and keep your receipt and serial number.
- Look up the model number on CPSC.gov before you buy any gas range, and have gas appliances installed by a qualified professional.
- Consider an extended protection plan at checkout. One plan can cover a whole appliance package.
Pricing and Value
Both brands sit well below legacy luxury brands like Wolf, Viking and Thermador. Between the two, comparable models are often close in price. The two 36-inch ranges above, for example, were within about 2% of each other when we checked in October 2026. The gap depends more on size, fuel type and finish than on the brand, and ZLINE's designer finishes and Autograph Edition trim add to the cost.
Prices change often, so check current pricing on each product page. Two ways to save with either brand:
- Appliance packages: ZLINE packages and Thor Kitchen packages bundle a range, hood, refrigerator and dishwasher for less than buying each piece separately.
- Financing: pay over time at checkout.
Product Lineup
Both brands can outfit an entire kitchen:
- ZLINE: ranges, rangetops and cooktops, wall ovens, range hoods, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves, ice makers, wine and beverage coolers, kitchen faucets and sinks, and bathroom faucets, showers and hardware.
- Thor Kitchen: ranges and cooktops, wall ovens, range hoods, refrigerators and freezers, dishwashers, microwaves (including microwave drawers), ice makers, wine and beverage coolers, and outdoor grills.
ZLINE is the better fit if you want appliances and plumbing fixtures from one brand in matching finishes. Thor covers every major cooking and refrigeration appliance and adds an outdoor kitchen line.
ZLINE or Thor: Which Should You Choose?
Choose ZLINE if:
- Finishes and a coordinated look matter most

Choose Thor Kitchen if:
- Cooking power and oven capacity come first
