Which ZLINE Wall Range Hood is Right for You?

Updated October 2026

The right ZLINE wall range hood is at least as wide as your range, has enough CFM for your cooktop, and is ducted outside whenever possible. For most electric, induction and smaller gas ranges, one of ZLINE's 400 CFM convertible hoods is plenty. For high-output pro-style gas ranges, step up to a 500 or 700 CFM Professional model. From there, it comes down to style: brushed stainless, black stainless, Satin Stainless, copper, wood or Autograph Edition accents.

Range hoods are where ZLINE got its start, and the wall-mount lineup is huge. Here's how our team at Home Outlet Direct helps customers narrow it down.

Exact sizes and CFM options vary by model, so always check the product listing. You can browse them all in our ZLINE wall-mount range hood collection.

Step 1: Match the Width to Your Range

Choose a hood that is at least as wide as your range. A 36-inch range needs a 36-inch or wider hood. Going one size up (for example, a 42-inch hood over a 36-inch range) catches more smoke and grease, especially with powerful gas burners. ZLINE wall hoods come in widths from 24 to 60 inches, so you can almost always find a match.

Step 2: Size the CFM

CFM (cubic feet per minute) measures how much air a hood moves. Two rules of thumb:

  • Gas ranges: about 100 CFM for every 10,000 BTU of total cooktop output.
  • Electric and induction: about 10 CFM per inch of cooktop width. A 30-inch electric range needs roughly 300 CFM, so a 400 CFM hood covers it.

Here's how that plays out with ZLINE's own Paramount gas ranges. The 30-inch SGR30 (53,000 BTU) points to about 530 CFM, and the 36-inch SGR36 (71,000 BTU) to about 710 CFM. For either one, a 700 CFM Professional hood is the practical choice. See our ZLINE SGR review for the full range specs.

One important caution: above about 400 CFM, many local building codes require make-up air, a way to bring fresh air back into the house. Check with your installer or local building department before you size up. Our explainer What Is a CFM Rating for Range Hoods? goes deeper.

Step 3: Ducted or Ductless?

ZLINE range hoods are primarily designed for ducted ventilation, which vents smoke, grease and moisture outside and always outperforms recirculation. Many everyday models, including the KB series, are convertible: if you can't run a duct, they can recirculate air through ZLINE's charcoal filter kit (model CF1 on the KB series, sold separately). Some Professional models, such as the 697, are ducted only, so check the listing if you might need to recirculate.

Duct size matters too. The 400 CFM KB-36 includes a transition for 6-inch round duct, while the 700 CFM 8654SN-36 uses an 8-inch transition. Higher airflow needs a larger duct, so check your model's installation manual. Our guide How to Install a ZLINE Stainless Steel Wall Range Hood walks through the job, though we recommend a licensed installer for ductwork and electrical.

Step 4: Choose a Style and Finish

  • Brushed stainless steel (430-grade on the KB and Professional lines): classic and easy to match.
  • Black stainless steel: pairs with ZLINE's black stainless ranges.
  • Satin Stainless Steel (ZLINE's fingerprint-resistant finish, long known as DuraSnow®): a softer, lower-gloss look that resists smudges.
  • Copper, oil-rubbed bronze, colored shells and wood: Designer Series and wooden hoods for a statement piece.
  • Autograph Edition: polished gold, champagne bronze or matte black handles that match Autograph ranges, rangetops and dishwashers.

It's convertible for ductless use with the CF1 charcoal filter kit. It comes in 24-, 30-, 42- and 48-inch sizes, and there's a black stainless steel version (BSKBN).

ZLINE 36" Hand-Hammered Copper Wall Range Hood (KB2-HBXXX-36)

ZLINE KB2-HBXXX-36 36-inch hand-hammered copper wall range hood

For a rustic or transitional kitchen, the KB2-HBXXX-36 from ZLINE's Designer Series adds a hand-hammered copper finish. ZLINE notes it uses 304-grade stainless steel. It has the same four-speed, 400 CFM performance as the KB-36, baffle filters and convertible ductless capability.

ZLINE 36" Professional Ducted Wall Mount Range Hood (697-36)

Pairing a hood with a high-BTU gas range? The 697-36 has a four-speed 700 CFM motor (280/420/560/700 CFM) and a deep 28-inch canopy to capture rising smoke. It's built from 430-grade stainless and comes in widths up to 60 inches. The similar 667-36 offers the same 700 CFM airflow in a different profile.

ZLINE 36" Wooden Wall Range Hood with Crown Molding (321TT-36)

The 321CC-36 wooden hood we featured in earlier versions of this guide is no longer available. Its current counterpart is the 321TT-36. It's hand-finished solid pine with a stainless steel inner frame, has a ducted 700 CFM four-speed motor, and includes a crown-molded chimney.

ZLINE 36" CrownSound™ Wall Hood with Bluetooth Speakers (KBCRN-BT-36)

The KBCRN-BT-36 hides Bluetooth speakers in its crown molding. You can pair a phone from up to 50 feet away while the 400 CFM, four-speed motor handles everyday cooking.

ZLINE Autograph Edition 36" Wall Hood (KB4STZ-36-G)

The KB4STZ-36-G adds a polished gold handle designed to match Autograph Edition ranges. It's a convertible 400 CFM hood, and versions with champagne bronze or matte black accents are also available.

Warranty

Every ZLINE range hood carries ZLINE's official coverage: 3 Year Parts-Only; Limited Lifetime Motor. Keep your proof of purchase and the hood's serial number for any claim.

Not a Wall-Mount Kitchen?

If your range sits on an island, needs to tuck under cabinets, or goes inside a custom surround, ZLINE has those too. Browse island hoods, under-cabinet hoods and range hood inserts. For outdoor kitchens, use a hood rated for outdoor installation from our ZLINE outdoor hood collection.

The Bottom Line

Start with width, then size the CFM to your cooktop, plan for ducting (and make-up air on bigger hoods), and finish with the style that matches your range. Most kitchens are well served by a 400 CFM KB-series hood, while serious gas cooks should look at the 700 CFM Professional line. Shop the full ZLINE range hood collection (it has a hood FAQ at the bottom), or save by pairing a hood and range in a ZLINE appliance package.
