Calling all DIY enthusiasts! You just purchased your beautiful ZLINE stainless steel wall range hood, now what? You can call an installer to help you, or, if you're ambitious, you could do it yourself! It's not as complicated as some might think and you'll have the pride of knowing you did it all by yourself.
Before You Start
- Inspect the hood. Unbox it and check for missing or damaged parts before you install anything. ZLINE asks you to report shipping damage before installation, and not reporting it may void the warranty.
- Read your model's manual. Follow the installation manual for your exact model and your local codes. ZLINE posts the latest manuals on its website, and its warranty does not cover service to fix an installation that didn't follow them.
- Plan the height. ZLINE recommends 30 to 36 inches between the cooktop and the hood. Check your manual, since some models list their own range. Mark the wall with a level line (a laser level makes this quick and accurate).
- Plan the vent. If you're venting through an exterior wall, cut the opening first. Slide the exterior duct sleeve into the hole from outside, then trim it from the inside so it doesn't stick out past the wall. Make sure the duct fits in the space behind the chimney cover, and use the duct size your manual calls for.
- Check for make-up air. Above about 400 CFM, many local codes require make-up air. Check with your local building department.
- Know your limits on wiring. If you're not comfortable making the electrical connections, hire a licensed electrician for that step.
Installation Steps
Here are the simple steps for installing:
- Mark the center line
- Measure your two mounting points
- Install the two mounting screws, leaving 1/4 inch from the wall to mount the hood
- Slide the hood on
- Install the transition piece
- Add ducting on top of the hood
- Make your electrical connections
- Mount the top chimney bracket, centering it on the ceiling
- Install the two telescopic chimneys
- Secure top and bottom with screws provided
- Slide the grease filters into place
- Turn on your hood and enjoy!
