    Mini Split FAQ

What BTU rating should I choose for my air handler?

    • This depends on the coverage area/room size you are trying to heat/cool
    • An Air Handler's BTU is how powerful the fan is. A higher BTU rating will be able to heat/cool a larger area
Air Handler BTU Coverage Area/Room Size (Sq Ft.)*
    9K BTU
    Up to 375 Sq. ft
12K BTU Up to 500 Sq. ft
18K BTU Up to 750 Sq. ft
24k BTU Up to 1000 Sq. ft
36k BTU  Up to 1500 Sq. ft

*Ceiling height, insulation, and local climate may impact the coverage area. For example, an uninsulated room will require more power than a well insulated room.

Pretty Easy Install and Works Great!

Installed my own central HP system. It was a bit of work but nothing beyond a person with basic mechanical and electrical skills. It took me a while because I had to remove the existing electric forced air furnace from a pretty tight place. Some custom sheet metal work and a bit of custom electrical too. Worked perfectly when powered up and I actually like the thermostat provided, although I wish it was clearer how to set up a temperature set-back schedule. Pre-charged refrigerant piping was something new and I liked that too. The best thing is that my electric utility forked out $4,000 and that paid for the unit!

    Heat pump unit

My unit arrived on time and undamaged. It was installed without a problem. I hate the fuse unit didn't come with it. They did UPS it to me so I didn't have to put installation on hold. The unit is very quiet and works well.

Old r22 unit, same capacity, worked better in temperature extremes

Product came packaged well, undamaged. Installation was difficult, followed instructions for suction line above coil on bilevel installation with coil above condenser. 108 inside house on startup, 103 ambient. First start, high pressure 500, low pressure 170, supply air temp 66 degrees. Very worried at first, but after house cooed down, everything within parameters. Researched 410a refrigerant, found out it looses efficiency exponentially during temperature extremes. My old r22 unit would supply 54 degree supply air in comparable operating conditions. EPA, government, a/c manufactures all lying to American public
